The Client: Siemens Mobile Siemens AG (based in Berlin and Munich) is a global leader in
electronics and electrical engineering, operating in the industry, energy, and
health-care sectors.
The Task: To develop an online flash game for Siemens Mobile that would serve as a
B2B promotion tool. KEY TEC was tasked with designing a game that would
simulate the planning and construction of mobile networks. A game offering a
unique playing experience was sought, realistic in its basic features without
seeming instructional.
The Goals:
To develop a self-contained game world that integrates product
information and company themes while also including natural and topographical
features.
A strategy and calculation
game was desired in which the player seeks to achieve the highest possible
score. In order to make the game interesting, progressive difficulty levels
would also be incorporated. High-quality graphics and a vivid interface were
also sought.
The Solution: A different map was developed
for each of the game’s three levels. Through experimentation the player
gradually learns how to optimally position the cellular base stations within
the highly varied terrain of each map. Each level is progressively more
difficult – the player advances to the next level after achieving network
coverage of at least 30%. In addition, a limited amount of time is provided, making speed a main
difficulty factor (and allowing all three levels to be played during a single
lunch break).
To bring the game screens to life we worked with randomly generated animations.
We used few local animations to keep load times short.
